PRESS RELEASE - 12 November 2009
The Major Industries Training Advisory Council has launched it's 2009 Jobs Market!
Executive Officer of MITAC, Mr Archie Wright, said that Jobs Market was designed to showcase careers in traditional trades such as plumbing, electrical, building, refrigeration and hairdressing.
'In addition to easily identifiable trades we also presented information on careers in industries such as telecoms, civil construction and drilling.'
'The event targeted school students and their parents, and mature age job seekers or those interested in changing careers.'
Mr wright went on to say that, 'Over the next few years, several major projects will begin in northern Australia that will require a skilled and flexible workforce. These projects, representing some of the biggest private investments in Australia's history, include the Gorgon LNG project in WA, Queensland's Coal Seam Gas projects and of course, the inpex LNG plant in Darwin.'
'The most effective way to compete with interstate projects for skilled trades people is to grow our own.' added Mr Wright.
MITAC had about 10 industry groups / occupations represented at the event including: electrical, plumbing, hairdressing, civil construction, carpentry, building, refrigeration, telecoms and drilling. Each area had an employer / employee rep, a Registered Training Organisation and an industry organisation representative (skills council, industry association) to answer questions by attendees.
The staff and board of MITAC would like to that all who participated in this event.
